right rad heats before left
08 gl1800p have noticed that the right radiator heats up before the left. after about 3 miles the left radiator will start blowing hot air. started to notice this after I changed antifreeze at about 51K. have 58K on it now, everything else seems normal

new to 1800s but is it possible like a car, each radiator has a thermostat? and one is just staying closed longer? Like I said i'm new to Gold Wings, but that would be my guess.

I'm not sure but I too am new tobtge 1800. Although I believe there is only one thermostat.
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Re: right rad heats before left
I do believe there is only one thermostat,it is even plumbed to pump coolant through both radiators at same time, though at first I had an air pocket, but that should have worked its way out after 7,000 miles. only thing I can think of is a clog ( can't imagine with what? ). maybe I should try a good flush. If anybody has any ideas, would be great

Diagram is nice, too bad it has no parts labeled.

Re: right rad heats before left
You will need to check that the system is full ... here is how. To get to the rad. cap, remove the RF pocket. Be sure to check when on a center stand, and when the engine is cold. Add coolant or distilled water as needed. Re-install the rad cap, start and run for 2-3 mins while snapping the throttle several times. Turn off, refill under rad cap as needed. Then restart and allow to run until fans come on. Then add or remove coolant in the reservoir to the large mark towards the top of the dip stick.
If your system is low on coolant, the system and rad. cap should be pressure tested.

There is only 1 thermostat and as mentioned earlier, both are fed equal coolant. Do you have in infrared gun ??? Do you have accessories blocking air flow in or out or the radiators ???

Re: right rad heats before left
I've check out plumbing diagram and it doesn't make sense that one would heat up before the other. I can feel the tanks on the rad through the front of fairing when its warming up, or I can feel the air coming out driving down the road, after about 3 miles I start getting warm air from left rad. Changed the air filter when I first noticed it, I don't think I pinched anything it that process. Nothing blocking the rad. intakes.
