This may be long so I apologize. So now that I have my valve deal buttoned up, I noticed before I stored the bike a had a weird knock going on, it is hard to hear sometimes. I will try and get a video up of it when I get this alternator situation solved. I suspected the noise was my alternator and had it rebuilt. The alternator came back with the splines damaged from the shop(who was doing the work for free due to a favor owed) but said they rebuilt the bearings and internals. I was able to salvage the splines and clean it up and make it work. I put it back in and the noise was still there but to me sounds worse.
I ordered an alternator from dB electric and give that a try. I tried putting it in and the alternator won’t fit , it stops before it gets to the oring on the alternator. It won’t budge and don’t want to force it and damage the internals. I noticed the splines on my alternator go all the way down to the seal while dB electrics splines go 3/4 way down which make me believe it hit the end of the splines and won’t go farther. I contacted dB electric and they don’t see an issue , the model numbers for the alternator are different. Stock alternator is AHGA68 and dB electric is replacement for AHGA83. Can’t find anything for replacement for my alternator number.

Not sure if you had a question or needed help.
Re: 2006 gl1800 alternator
Was asking if anyone has run into this problem with the alternator from dB electric and the different model numbers that don’t match up and the spline difference. AHGA83 is there replacement for my 2006 gl1800, my alternator is a AHGA68 and the splines are different. When I look it up I see nothing for a direct replacement for a AHGA68. Don’t want to spend 600 on a oem alternator.
