Help!

Post by Koplinhagen » Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:48 pm

My 2003 Gl1800 was running and starting great, parked it for a day. Went to hook up my gmax helmet brake light controller and now I have no radio, it will not crank and the lcd dash turns on for a minute then shuts off. I also have no brake lights. I hear a relay clicking under the seat that dies off at the same time as the lcd quits. I was told that it was most likely the battery giving out and to check it which I will do tomorrow. The only wires I messed with were the 3 for the lower right luggage bag brake light. Does anyone have any ideas? I am currently limited on my tools and testers as everything is still in storage from my move. TYIA.

First question is how old is the battery and is this an AGM Battery (Absorbed GlassMat) or Acid type battery. The symptoms indicate that it may be your battery.

Do you have anything that may have been left on to drain the battery (happened to me with trunk light).

Check your connections to the battery, are they tight?

I will be rechecking all that tomorrow. It was just odd that it happened after I hooked up that controller. And that the lcd comes on but not the radio or brakes, then fades out. Im pretty sure that the battery is old and will need to be replaced.

Got home from work and tried to start the Wing. It cranked and started, but slowly and not very well. So off to get and replace the batt in the morning.

I would have said to make sure the connections are clean and tight and then have the battery tested.
