GL1800 Cam Chain Tentioners

I have a noise in the front end of the motor. sounds like in the old days when you would clip a card to the spokes of the bicycle. It follows with the RPM ... 2007 GL1800 91,000 miles. I opened the front cover and see nothing obvious that's broken. thinking about removing the piece with the teeth on it for timing and see what may be hiding behind there but when I turn the bolt on front of that all of it rotates including the chains. dont dare do anything else without some tips ... suggestions on what to specifically look for ... I know you said front end of motor but I just read on another site that a guy had a noise that sounded like a card in the spokes and he was thinking it was a driveshaft going bad. Just a thought.

Just a thought, when was the last time the valve lash was checked? Maybe what you're hearing is the valves (?)

Good thought. You could use the screwdriver to the ear trick and place it around the bike while it's running to see if you can pin point the location.

Ok Screw driver ??? How ??? I have never been mechanically inclined so this is new to me ...

Have the bike running. Place the metal end in the suspected area and the plastic end to your ear. It works just like a stethoscope.

Any chance you can capture the noise on a video on a smartphone, upload it to YouTube and place the link here ???

On GL1800 noises can be very deceiving as to where they sound like they are coming from.

Do you get the noise if the bike is sitting stopped, in neutral, and you rev the engine? Or does it happen only when you are riding and moving?
