Cleaning front tire

Post by freedomrunner » Mon May 21, 2018 8:12 am

I bought a used Goldwing and the front tire rim has what appears to be several years of built up crud on it. My first impulse is to just throw the rim away and buy new. Before I do that, I thought I would check to see if there are any good ideas as to how to approach this. I don't believe the normal cleaner I have used for years is going to be up to the task.

thanks

Heres what I use on my front wheel. Its S100 polishing soap good on aluminum and can be also used on chrome. Its a diminishing soap polish that as you use it it gets finer. You can either rinse it off or let it dry and polish it off. Ive used it on other bikes Ive bought used and it works quite well.

Depends on how bad the wheel is. I use Mothers mag wheel cleaner polish and it works great. But if the wheel is to far gone it might be easier to just get another wheel.

Is that really a standard front rim? It looks great!

Yes it is the stock rim. Mothers mag wheel polish and a little elbow grease works great.
Here is my 08

Another good polish is Flitz a metal polish you can get at some auto stores and Ace hardware. It works just as well as the higher end mag polishes and makes it easier to clean when they get dirty as it has some silicone in it. If you use a powerball or cone with a drill it looks exceptional.
