2012 with 40K unstable and slows down. Required excessive throttle.
I know this in part describes a brake issue. No heat buildup from brakes. Recall not done. Brakes flushed last year. Tires new and up to pressure. Slight looseness in diff bearings. Oil seeping. I am, or was going on my first real vacation the 20th. Purchased a uni-go that is yet to be installed. Dealers are all booked up. This just happened last Sunday. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a take off 2009 diff coming tomorrow 6/7/18. Old one already off.

I was told the brakes were dragging. They did the recall. Let you know soon.

I have an update on the instability issue. The recommended fork drop when installing the replacement bearings was a little overdone by me. I was told 10mm would make the bike handle better. I dropped the front end 9/16 thinking it would be better. It created an over reaction in the steering that was impossible to overcome. The slightest changes in balance, wind and steering at higher speeds would cause a darting situation. I raised the front end to factory and the problem is gone. I strongly suggest that you not, I repeat not change the front ride height.

People really underestimate the effects of what seem like very minor changes in suspension geometry. You might have been able to get away with it if you also changed the rear suspension to match, but changing just one end alters the angle of the front forks, which in turn changes trail and caster, and that in turn affects steering and stability.peppilepew wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:05 pm I have an update on the instability issue. Correct! To amplify the imbalance a 1k pound rear spring was added. If I was schooled in rake and trail, it would have long ago never happened, or been solved. It should have registered when the bike handled better with weight in the bags and riding 2 up. Tapered roller bearings exert more resistance to turning. They in effect slow steering return to neutral. However slight the effect, handling is effected. Manufacturers spend many hours designing and testing. I hope my pain has done some good. Don't screw with the geometry of your wing.

The brake recall while eliminating the drag issue has now caused a low initial brake pedal. On top of everything else I strongly suggest that anyone with wing issues find an independent who specializes in wings. This forum is by far just that, a group of smart experienced wingers. Don't sell this forum short.
