Offshore Knockoff Repro Versus Honda OEM Parts

Post by JoeHall »

I plan to install a spoiler on the trunk of my 2008 GL1800. Looking on fleabay, I see there are Chinses knockoffs for $80, and there are OEM Hondas for around $250. Has anyone tried the knockoffs? If so, how was appearance, fit, form and function?

Thanks Much,
Joe H

Well Joe since you got no takers if you don’t mind a slight highjack of your post without taking it too far off line.

Does anyone have any experience with the Chinese knockoff luggage rack. Looks very much like a well known brand sold by almost all the accessory dealers.

I got a knockoff chrome luggage rack with black rubber inserts, looks just like the Kuryakyn product. I paid about $120 CDN for it six years ago from ebay. It is still pretty nice, no peeling, shiny like a packrats treasure.

My experience with Chinese stuff is that most anything made in Taiwan is quality, but not so if made in China. I really want to install a trunk spoiler, but not willing to pay $250-$300 for an OEM one. Besides, the black OEM ones are no longer available.

Hi Joe
Who is to say these are not actually the same thing Honda sells as OEM. Why can we think Honda does not buy some of their OEM parts from Chinese sources. My LED light bar in my OEM Spoiler has molded right in it "Made in China" and is the same light they use in Honda Civic's. Now to be perfectly honest I do not know if the spoiler is made in China but if the light is I would not be surprise if the spoiler is not also.

There was a time we poked fun at the “Made in Japan” stuff. Now I am beginning to see some decent stuff from China........ but I’m still a bit leary buying site unseen.
