Perhaps you are engaging it too early. If you engage it very far prior to your turn, it tends to cancel either before you actually turn, or just while you are doing so. Just before you are about to turn, you can reengage it and it will continue through most turns. This is with the GL1800, right?

And then again, perhaps it is broken.

Thanks Viking, A few times it has stayed on until I turned, but most of the time I have to hit it again. Holding the steering very straight, doesn't make a difference does it? Yes it is a 1800.

I don't remember if there is an exact time the signal remains on or not. There might have been a rough distance of around 150 feet, which sounds a little familiar.

I like to signal further back than that, so I do usually have to toggle the signal a second time to get me through the turn. I do not remember reading about any sort of gyro or anything that keeps it going until a turn is completed. However, that would be nice.

The signal cancels in a number of ways. Turning the wheel, and distance and speed. If you are going slow, it will not cancel until you make the turn.
At higher speeds it cancels after about 12 flashes. Just reset it.

It is 500 feet. If your signal is on longer than that people just think you forgot to turn it off.

This pic is from my 2005 GL1800 owner's manual. Turn signal stops after 7 secs or 110 yrds. Don't know if this is different per model year but would guess they are similar.

OK, that's the same thing my owners manual says. Something fishy though, 120 meters is longer than 110 yards. So it's either 330 ft or 394 ft. Dealer guy that showed me around my new 08 said it was 500 ft.

Just got back from a short ride. One time it was 10 -flashes,next time 11. On my way back one time it held all the way,but it was a shorter time to the stop.Maybe that I'm too early with the switch.I want to be a little early. I'LL check again.

I figured it out. 40 miles per hour & under it will not cancel out. 45 miles per hour it will cancel out.

It cancels out based on your speed. It uses the pulses coming from the speed sensor to trigger the turn off delay. This makes the delay change based on speed. If you stop moving while it’s flashing, it will remain on until you move the handlebars slightly left or right and then start moving again. If they are functioning properly, you can drive at any speed and go far enough and they will cancel on their own.
