What is the max load I can put on the trunk rack on my 2013 Wing?
I have the Showchrome tubular rack mounted on American M/C washers which are 1.25" diameter to spread the load a little.

Re: Max load on trunk rack?
between 10 and 15 lbs.
a lot of folks have discovered why that is true, and especially if the rack mounts do NOT have the large washers to spread out the strain on the ABS... it is brittle.
For me, maybe put the bike covers, and a rain suit stuff into a canvas bag and leave it go at that.
if it feels heavy in your hands, it is too heavy for the trunk rack.

My 2010 Gold Wing has a Honda rack with a label which states 0.9kg / 2lbs.

Basically, the trunk lid can only carry the weight of a down pillow.

Re: Max load on trunk rack?
You see, it is not the light weight load that will crack the lid, it is when you hit bumps and the load bounces against those four washers that are holding it. A complete support plate modified to fit perfectly inside the lid, made of aluminum, would greatly lessen the possibility of cracking the plastic. A support plate right on the outside of the lid would be even better, although ugly.

Re: Max load on trunk rack?
Just like to add to what Viking said. Apart from the vertical shock, causing the rack mounts to want to put 4 holes in the top box lid, shortly after this little gem of a hammering, whatever is inside the top box will be thrown against the inside of the lid for good measure. Also if the top box is holding its max weight (including the weight of the rack, spoiler, lid handle, lid organiser), the rack will/can hold diddly squat, and the inside edges of the lid will already be cutting into the top box. I am no fan of the Mickey Mouse tuppeny ha'penny rubbish top box lid design.
If at first you don't succeed, hide the evidence.
