2007 Gl1800 140,000 miles

Post by adsooter » Fri Jul 20, 2018 10:58 am

Good morning to all,
I am going to a dealer this weekend and look at upgrading from a gl1500 to a gl1800, the only thing is, the bike has 140,000 miles and not sure if the dealer has any service records. During the road test is there any advice as what to look for that may show up as a problem later. I did ride a 1800 a few years ago and have noticed the ride is a bit stiffer so that I have a head start on.
Thanks for any input you high mileage riders may have.
Allen

I bought a 2002 with 97500 miles and the dealer held the title from Florida.
I got the name, and address, and wrote off a letter....

that guy actually wrote back and gave me his phone number,
ended up that I got full documentation from mile #1 to present ( at time of purchase )

try that....

as for the road test, I never got off the dealer's lot.
I did figure 8s and up/dn shifts on their large parking area....
looked for obvious things that might need maintenance.

turned out, the PO was very anal and it was all spotless and perfect.

Thanks John,
I took a lot of time looking over this bike, took some of my electronic test equipment and listened to the engine with an electronic ear. Did not hear any odd noise on start up, or through the warm up. After the bike got to operating temp. I did notice a slight clattering sound on a quick throttle twist, and then on engine shut off. The sound was coming from the alternator, and the dealer stated they would replace it, or I could and they would take off 500.00 from the price. Other than that, it was perfect, not a scratch and all the service and upgrade records were in the trunk. So after giving them my offer and leaving to have lunch, oh and stopping at the Harley shop, I have those also, we went back and the Honda dealer took my offer. I have to say, the 3 hr ride home was very nice.

Update,
Well after a lot of looking and hammering on the sales mans desk we came to an accord and I bought the 07 Goldwing. It does run better than my 1500 but not as quite, it does have a whine to it that I have heard on others so I don't think that will be an issue. I do have a question to you 1800 riders about the audio system. I have read the book and still can not find my answer. I was setting all the items on the mode button and ran across the (beep) mode and the (RODGER BEEP) mode. What the heck is that?
Thanks for any help
Allen
