How hard is it to rebuild front brake calipers on a 2002 gl1800?

Post by Rockdog »

Noticed some dust on one of the front calipers....the kind when brake fluid bypasses the plunger pieces in caliper...how hard is it to get at and all that's involved...did a search..not much on the subject....looked on YouTube...20 vids on brake pad replacement but no caliper rebuilding for Goldwing 1800. Information needed please

Never saw brake fluid make dust, it's wet. If it had oily stuff on it more likely it's a fork seal leaking.

Just to say.....the brake caliper is leaking fluid. There for it is leaking something wet..brake fluid..dust from sitting in the shop on a farm or driving down the road. Things like that....it accumulates dust sticking to the brake fluid that is leaking out of the brake caliper..I'm not saying that dust is coming out of the brake caliper.....just that it is sticking to the fluid on the brake caliper..I noticed that it was doing this .......that typically means that it needs to be rebuilt...... So I gather that the most difficult part is bleeding the brake then?

Also If it was a leaking fork seal it would be accumulating dust on the fork shaft ..the bottom fork part and the brake caliper.....not just the bottom of the brake caliper on one side.......
