Recommended replacement for Michelin Primacy Alpin for going Darkside

Post by Viking »

Warning: Darkside information below. GL1800 related.

As the Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 ZP in 195/55R16 has been discontinued by Michelin and appears to be sold out world wide (or at least North America wide), what would people think would be the criteria for a Darkside radial for a GL1800? I have thoughts, and would like some opinions, as not all tires are suitable.

Sipes. I would think that edge sipes which point in the same direction would be a good thing.
Directional indicator. I would think this would be valuable, in order to know which direction they intended the mounting for a car, which should be the same as for a bike.
Tread Pattern. My belief is that if there is a varying tread pattern then the tire would not be motorcycle suitable.
Run Flat. Some run run flats and some do not, but it could get one limped home, or at least to a service location.

I have found the Michelin X Ice, and also the Pirelli 210 Winter. Both appear to meet the above criteria.

Does anyone have any pertinent ideas about this? Such as more possible suitable tires, or more criteria which could make choosing a tire more easily done?

Thank you
Thom

A lot of people are using tires that are not directional and different tread side to side. I just prefer directional tires with the same tread on both sides.
