Plastic Radiator Grill Repair

Post by okie2ee »

Thought I would share my repair experience with the plastic radiator grill. I had noticed that one of the mounting tabs was broken on the plastic grill and after taking the grill off, I discovered that both tabs were broken. I have used this technique to repair the front bumper covering on my car.

This picture shows the tab after it has been repaired with Super Glue, this just holds the pieces in place for the final repair. It also shows the tab after the metal has been epoxied to grill, forgot to take an initial picture.

This is the expoxy that I used to make the repair, J B Weld Plastic Bonder. I have had good luck with this.

This is the material that I used to repair the tabs. It is aluminum flashing used for roofing.

Next I cut out tabs from the aluminum sheeting and then glued them to the grill tabs.

I then drilled a hole thru the tab holes and used a utility knife to peel out the remaining material to open up the hole to match the original opening.
