Hello Everyone
RE: 2003 GL1800ABS
I have read the threads in here about CB radio issues but found my issue yet.
I do not see the CB box inside the trunk or in the hidden box in trunk
I can hear others talk on CB clearly
Rarely can others hear me
proven not to be headsets or microphones
questions:
has there been issues with talk button on left handle bar?
can someone add a picture of where the CB radio itself is so I can check wires and connections?
cracked attenna mount can cause this in trunk?

Re: CB Transmitting issue
So i have found the CB unit itself, didnt realise there was yet another cavity under hidden area in trunk. All connections into CB are clean no corrosion.Checked antenna mounts for cracks none to be seen.
Going to check to talk button next as all the issue seems to be garbbled messages when talking but i can hear clear when someone talks to me.Same issue when passenger uses the CB with rear button

Re: CB Transmitting issue
I ride with a group of GL1800 riders (GWRRA chapter) all the time, including last night. I can tell you that out of the group (11 bikes last night), only 1 broadcasts clear. The rest are garbled, squealing, overmodulating, or weak, and it's a challenge to hear what any of them are saying. That said, my GL1500SE's CB reportedly is consistently clear & easily understood.
Back in the 1970's, when I was marginally more active in the local CB world, these issues were common among those who didn't properly tune their CB antennas with SWR meters, resulting in feedback into their radios, poor/garbled transmissions, etc.
Here's a previous thread that deals with some of these issues & how to correct them...

Re: CB Transmitting issue***SUCCESS***
Last post to the issue I HAD...no transmission that was legiable to anyone listening.
I first want to say Thanks for the replies and especially on the GWRRA Facebook where great information pointed me in the direction needed.
Two issues were to blame.
Ground strap on antenna was poor due to paint
Antenna out of adjustment

Excellent, glad you got it fixed!
Thanks for reporting back - the “fix” information will be useful to others in the future.

Re: CB Transmitting issue
I forgot to add that while I did clean the ground at the antenna I also created a new additional ground strap that runs along the top of the original ground plate from Honda
I can do a pic if anyone needs it

When you press the "TALK" lever on the left handlebar, do you see "TX" appear on your dash screen?

Re: CB Transmitting issue
I'm going to pass on your solution to the several riders in my GWRRA group whose CB's sound awful!
