Anyone here has any information on the average amperage use on a GL1800..??
I understand the alternator average output at normal RPM is around 900 watts and as high as 1.2 Kw at 5K RPM?
I'm planning on purchasing full heated gear for my wife and I and i don't want to run the alternator more than 70% of capacity for a long period of time..
With heated seats and and heated grips as well as all electronics and light running, not sure how much power left to spare??

Average output is 900 watts? That's 75 amps...that's a tremendous amount of power. I have a current shunt ammeter that you plug in place of a blade fuse, and will tell you how much current is going across that fuse. I can't seem to find it online, but I know they exist - you could plug that across each fuse and add up the results to find out how much power your bike is pulling from the alternator.
Alternatively, you could use something like this cheap meter:

If you hook the shunt up in series with the output of the alternator, it will tell you exactly how much load is being put on the alternator. That should give you an idea of how much reserve you have.
