Fog lights? Which is best?
I have a 2009 GoldWing, non airbag, and wish to install some fog lights. Checked quite a few models in the WINGSTUFF web site. Choice seems to be between the SHOWCHROME and the HONDALINE....the latter is more costly but appears to be better quality??? Is anyone familiar with these and could you recommend which might be the best.

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
I purchased a pair from Ebay. They are 21/2 Inches and not the 3 inch ones used generally. I found them to be just a bright and the spread is the same. They do not detract from the look of the bike or look out of place (well I think so anyway). The cost was equivelant to about $50. Instead of removing the blanks I simply cut a hole to the correct size and then 'wired' the lights in position rather than use the brakets provided. hopefully you will be able to see it in position (never attached to this site so don't know if it will work).

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
I just purchased and installed some show chrome lights for my 08. i was impressed with the quality and the instal was easy. I puchased the lights from 2nd-gear on e-bay. they are based out of calgary so customs was not as issue and the same price as the ones in the states.

You might want to look into these Ken:
http://www.cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/223
The Hondaline and Showchrome units are 35 watts each. The Electrical Connection lights are 55 watts each. I have the EC lights in mine and they are really bright. They were easy to install as well. I leave mine on all the time....for light at night and visibility during the day. Also, with the EC lights you can wire them so they stay on when you kick on your highbeams. The fog light/highbeam combo throws ALOT of light.

Ken,
What is it you are wanting the lights to do? What are your expectations of them?

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
Good question. In terms of expectations.....increased visibility without blinding oncoming cars or riders. Increased lumination while riding at night. Would like to be able to turn them on and off as required. Lastly.....ideally LED to minimize power consumption but I will decide what is best based on my research.lewis/ec wrote:Ken,

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
Ken,
Based on your reply, it narrows it down to 3 options. Hondaline, Show Chrome (Big Bike Parts) and us. The Show Chrome kit is basically a copy of the Hondaline, but the SC is less money. The Honda/SC produces a flat beam...almost fog type. Uses two 10 watt LED element. Price around $310 for a kit. Here is a pic of the beam (the spacing is 10' between markers):
Our kit produces more of a driving light beam. More focused. We use an LED array of nine 1 watt elements....so we are just under half in wattage compared to the Honda/SC. Price is $230 for a kit. Here is a pic of the beam:
Note those pics are of a single light....you are going to get double of what you see there. Both available for airbag/non-airbag models. Plug and play.

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
I have used the EC Auxiliary Light kit and found the quality to be excellent, fairly easy to install with an optional ability to be able to turn the lights off and on as I desire using a switch that appears to be Honda OEM. I have been very happy with the set up.

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
Hey Lewis...
I see by your post that you are in Knoxville? Is EC a brand name? I'm heading to Pigeon Forge area this summer, where could I pick up a pair of these LED lights. The last set I had were 2 sets of 3 LEDS (6 per side) 1/2 of the left set burned out. I checked the wiring and harness and all appear tight. I may need to replace. Do you deliever to Canada or just continental USA>

Re: Fog lights? Which is best?
Hello Russ,
Be aware that you are replying to a 3 year old post.....but everything is pretty much still valid. There are some new LED options out there now.
Lewis, I believe, is the owner of The Electrical Connection, http://www.electricalconnection.com/misc/about.htm . They have good stuff there. I don't know if they have a showroom or not, but I'm sure you could call and ask.
