speedometer acting up

Post by larrypearson »

Just recently (4 months ago), purchased a 2001 GL1800A. My speedometer has started acting up meaning that when I'm doing 100Kms/hr and slow down, the speedo remains at 100kph??? This also happens at different speed limits, and, not all the time. Any suggestions????
Please reply either via forum or email at lap0276@gmail.com.
Thanks

I remember something about the speedometer needle being warped rubbing on the clock face.

Did not look like it, but I will pay more attention to it now and see if that is the issue.
Thanks

I sent you an email with the Service Bulletin attached to it concerning the sticky speedometer needle problems with the 2001 GL1800.

Thanks Mike. Printed off the service bulletin and will investigate with dealer. New to this forum and not computer literate so am having trouble making posts and replying. Not sure if I'm duplicating by replying via the forum vs email??? Will eventually learn (I hope).

It's really not a good idea to put your email address in a post in a open forum like this, unless you like lots of spam.

There are several recalls and service bulletins on the 01 and later Gold Wings. Frame re weld was one of them. Go to a dealer and they can run your VIN and find out what needs to be completed. There also was one for over heating. Safety recalls never expire and can be done at any time BUT I THINK, not sure on this, a service bulletin has an exponentiation time for the dealer to do it under the bulletin.
Here is a post with some of them
