Seat not heating

Post by mekovach »

What are the steps to trouble shoot a seat heating issue? I have a GL 1800 Audio Comfort. I checked heater fuse 1 & 2 and they are good. What next? Relays? Where are those?

Thanks

Do the grip heaters work? Most of the time the problem is with one of the grip heaters, if one of those goes bad it shuts down the whole system.

I agree, if either grip element quits, it all quits.

Mine quit last spring. Turned out that when I wired the lights on the new spoiler under the seat, I failed to reconnect the heater plug before putting the seat back on.

Hmmmm… still not sure why I put a spoiler under the seat.

2 possibilities

1-Seat heater won't come on above 65 degrees.

2- left grip gets damaged putting bike on the centerstand, improperly hanging in the grip to steady, pulling grip to get the bike up on the centerstand. When the grip has a broken grip heater, the seat will not come on as the grip and seat heaters are wired in series, neither will work, just like grip heater won't work if the seat is unplugged.

Good morning all,
i have been through this topic since i have an issue with the rear heated seat, actually not working in my 2008 GW USA version. Heated grips working as well as front heated seat.
I have a feeling that some electric wire is cut. Problem is how do I find the relevant wires... if I remember right there should be harness in the trunk containing the heated seat's wires , does anybody can drive me in the trouble shooting?..thanks in advanace

You say the rear seat, as in the passenger seat only doesn't heat up? There is the passenger heat controller on the left rear cubby to check.

Correct , only the passenger seat. yes you are right, one point to be checked so ,if you can reply:
- how do I access the heat controller inside..How do i remove it?
- do you know the wires path from seat to rear controller and to fuse and where is the fuse?

I haven't had a problem with mine. Follow the wires and check the service manual wiring diagram. I don't have my service manual with me. It is 5 hrs away from me.
