Wiring for a trailerto pull with my 2009 Wing
I am going to put a hitch on my 2009 Goldwing and need to know what I need to purchase for the wiring harness. When I look for wiring harnesses there seems to be several to choose from. Is this something that is easy to do, that I can do myself. Do I need to also purchase a bracket that holds the flat four or round 5 to plug the trailer in. Any info would be appreciated.
Also are there recommendations for what Hitch to purchase.

No bracket needed. I always use BushTech hitches and trailer wiring stuff. Below is a link.

Wiring depends on the trailer. 4 or 5 wire trailer harness. You can get the Kuryakyn 3241 harness adapter that makes the job plug and play. Hooks up between the OEM wiring plugs. Description says allows you to use Kury accessories, but you can cut the pigtail wires and use them. Running, brake turn and ground wires.
You will want to add an isolator between the bike wiring and the trailer plus. This takes the load OFF the bike wires.

Re: Wiring for a trailerto pull with my 2009 Wing
I picked up my light harness from Electrical Connection. Very easy to install.
Here is how I set up my plug. You can get a round 5 pin and do the same thing. I needed a 6 pin because my trailer has trailer brakes. This is on a 2012, but you could do the same thing on your 09.
I put a pull apart plug on this so I could get the rear fender off if I needed to.

As to the hitch-
My 08 had a Bushtec hitch on it along with their wire harness. The hitch has been great having put @90,000 towing miles on the wing in the past 5 1/2 yrs. Never had a problem with the hitch. It's well made and tows great.
Wire harness-
I had to replace the Bushtec wire harness that was on there almost immediately after buying the bike in 2013, it only had 15,500 miles on the bike at that point. One of the relays went out on it. I think I put on an Add-on brand harness, if I remember correctly. I needed a harness quickly to get on the road and it was available locally then. No problems in the past 90,000 miles since with the wiring.
I put the connector under the fender, mounted the bracket to the hitch(you can't see the connector while standing up)

That's the way I mounted it on my 2012. Out of the way and no chance of breaking the plastic fender.newday777 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 9:52 am Howdy Nitefuzz

Re: Wiring for a trailerto pull with my 2009 Wing
I added a Grifter Box to mine and stow the harness in inside when not towing. Made up and extender harness to be sure I had enough length so no stretching or pinching. Towed my Bushtec from FL to Ohio and then FL to Knoxville last year no problems.
I found a damaged wire in the Bushtec harness that went up into the trunk lid area, so pulled out that portion of the original Bushtec harness and the hokey way they tapped the turn signals at the diode and made a jumper harness that plugs into the C-31 connector under the seat and connected it to the Bushtec isolator , works like a charm.

Re: Wiring for a trailerto pull with my 2009 Wing
I Thank all of you for your input, gave me a lot of good things to think about. Also, really like the hidden box that M61A1MECH came up with for the connector to be kept in when not in use.

Re: Wiring for a trailerto pull with my 2009 Wing
And it is lockable.
Normally that box would mount so the door open up, but my license plate holder made it necessary for me to mount the other way around. The other small issue I found was the box sets the tag back more so the stock tag light did not illuminate the plate very well, I went to Oznium LEDs and picked up some post lights , tapped into the tail light and ground wires in the trailer harness to power them, that is what those two small positaps you see in the phots are for.
Let me know if you need any help sourcing ant parts.
Good luck with how ever you decide to go.
