2005 high beam upgrade

Post by 702scottc » Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:39 am

I replaced both high beam bulbs with LED bulbs. I had read in the past how difficult they are to change. They are no joke a pain to change, especially the left side.

I also just recently changed my Highbeams to LED, I waited until I had more to do than just the lights, I did the work while I had the top shelter off to change the air filter. Was a bit easier I believe...but yeah..I was cursing the engineers!

I was considering doing a change to LED on my high beams until I saw a you tube video. I'll do it when one of my present bulbs bites the bullet.

Yup. I helped install a set on a GL1800 on the local GWRRA chapter's maintenance day last year, and came away with shredded hands afterwards. It's hard work in tight spaces.

It does seem like they where an afterthought during the design period. In their defense high beams typically last a long time since they aren't used as much as low beams. Mine lasted 14 years. I'm sure these LED bulbs I got from Cyclemax will last many years. I had replaced the low beams last year and they work really well, didn't really need to use the high beams at all. The low beams overpowered the halogen high beams so they where essentially useless. Now when I turned them all on it lit my carport up like daytime. A nice upgrade that isn't too expensive. Just tough on your hands..lol.

Wait until you get out at night and get the full effect of the new high beams.
I sold my PIAA 1100X driving lights after installing the LED headlights. The PIAAs were useless.
