Ultimate seat owners question.....

Post by Big Bob »

I have found a used Ultimate king seat w/backrest for a decent price. Doesn't come with rain covers or passenger backrest. My question is 1. I'm surprised that a seat of that price needs a seat cover, and 2. how well does the cover fit and last? Seems crazy to me. Any thoughts and opinions on this seat would be great, thanks!

The only seat that I know of that is waterproof is the OEM one Honda provides. All others have stitching which can allow water into the under fill.

My "09" I have a Corbin seat, absolutely love it, wouldn't have anything else. I have a piece of plastic in the bottom of one of my saddle bags that cover the seat and covers from the handlebars to the luggage rack where I use clothes pins to hold it in place and then throw my bike cover over everything. seat always stays dry. It only takes a few minutes to get it all covered up.

I've had a Corbin on my GL1500 for years and I too love it would never have anything else. It's been in the absolute pouring rain for hours while riding and never suffered any problems as a result.

Any seat with stitching can take on water. I have gotten my bike with Ultimate seat stuck in rain, and the amount of water it took in was minimal or non existant. I do have a cover for it, but have never put it on. I have ridden for days in the rain without noticing any water in the seat. The cover for the seat is available from the manufacturer.

The thing about the King seat is that you need to be tall enough with long enough arms to make it necessary. I am 5'8" and have the normal seat, so if you are 6 foot or better with long arms then the King would probably suit. One of the big advantages to changing seats is the backrest. The Ultimate backrest is slanted such that the passenger is more comfortable and does not slide forward every time a brake is applied. It is not a necessity, but my passenger found it to be better to ride against than the stock one.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

I have 01 trike. Have complete mid ultimate seat complete with passenger's backrest and cover came with seat. I am 5'6 and distance from handlebars is perfect. Wife has short seat, hers is perfect for 5'2. Dealer advised that if we had to put on rain gear we should cover seat, especially hers cause it is heated. In 8 yrs, only 1 time I put it on. Because we stopped cause of a bad storm.

:x Well being the procrastinator I am, the used seat appears to be sold. I will continue a search for a used seat as for we won't be riding here in MN for a while yet, and if I have to, I'll have to purchase a new one!

I have the ultimate seat and its amazing. I have a back rest too. No ass pain and its wonderful. It's a must for my body type. I never noticed water issues but I do have a waterproof cover for it I keep in the side bags. I always cover it when its at work and i expect rain. always. when i have been rained on while driving i never noticed any issues with water in mine. Maybe as you get miles on it keep checking. I would buy this again if I ever got another bike. It is worth every penny. I do put a conditioner on it once a month and clean it.

Hey Bob,
I would save up the money for a new one, because it comes with the covers, and they fit great. I have had my seat since 2010, still rides and looks new. I can say it Israelis comfortable seat I have ever bad. When I had my vtx 1300 I had also changed to Ultimate seat at a bike fest. I rode around from Leesburg Florida to Daytona and back. Went back toyou bike show and carried my old seat home. I recommend it highly, you just have to find out which rise you want.
Hope this is helpful.

Primary reason for wanting an Ultimate seat is I stand about 6 '1" is to move me back 1 1/2". Right now it bends my legs/knees back and is uncomfortable. Bottom line, I need leg room, highway pegs help, but need more comfort. At over $1,000 I think this should help.

The new one only comes with covers if you order and pay for them.

Sama0106, I'm curious do you work for or know someone who works for Ultimate Seat Co? I've looked at their website site and they do not mention that the rain covers are included with the seat when you purchase one. Just my observation.

You are correct. They are an option you have to purchase..They don't give them away.

That's what I thought, very few companies will give something for free.

I have had three Ultimate seats (GL1500, Valkyrie Interstate, GL1800), I have been happy with all. You may not like it, that's why there are many other seat makers as well. I bought mine used because I wasn't sure if they would fit me. I also have tried other well respected brands and didn't care for them.

Same for highway pegs (see another post by biggestbrian01). Took a couple iterations to find what worked best for me. The good news is by buying used, I was able to resell without too much of a loss.

To your original question, having a seat cover is a good thing but any seat cover should work. You can get pretty much any brand rain cover but if you ride with it on, you may need to pull the backrest out.

I think new Ultimate seats come with covers if you include the heat option. Otherwise they are extra. Ultimate does have a ride and return option for new seats. Russel also guarantees your satisfaction and will work with you to get a perfect fit.
