Idle slowly going up on 06

Post by zeekxxx »

Hi

I have noticed the high idle slowly go up over the last few months.

Was like 800 then started going to 1000 now its about 1200. All in a month or so of everyday driving.

I am going to take it all apart this weekend and check the filter but is there a set idle screw I can adjust or is it more complicated?

Thx!

Have you tried the ECM reset? Start bike cold and let it run until the fans come on, then shut it down. Don't touch the throttle during this procedure.
I let my fans come on twice.
Normally do this a few times a year.

Does your issue occur while letting out the clutch during warmup ???

That helped. Now my question. Why did it help? Is the computer waiting for this as a procedure or is there some other magic?

The ecm reset is a great start. I've done my 07 a couple of times. Also there is no adjustment to these as they are fuel injected

I don't know if it's magic, but I have found that if i take a long trip (500-600) miles, the bike then seems to run differently around town. Idle surges and may hesitate at times. A reset has always corrected this.

Be sure you battery connections are clean and tight and have your battery tested. Also, be sure that the amp/hr rating of the battery is correct for its year. For an 2006 it needs to be a 18amp/hr.

Yes thanks

New battery as of a month ago. It is the correct size and amperage.

I did notice the bike is much happier if I turn it on and let is run for a few minutes to warm up.

When i take it before the high idle settles down it seems to run up at a higher rpm at stoplights.

So my fix for now is to start it right away while i put my gear on and get settled in.

I was just kind of hopping on it and going right away. I thought fuel injection wouldn't cause me much grief.

Maybe something else is going on but I am going to run the correct amount of sea-foam in there next tank full of gas and see what happens.

Also going to spend the time to dig out the air cleaner and see how it looks.

Thx all.... I consider this a non-issue for now and will update if something happens.

Oh srry post 3. Didn't see that. When I pull the clutch it goes up 100 or so but settles back to high idle around 1200. The issue was most noticeable as I was idling into work. The rpm was 1200 and actually making me go faster on the roads in the parking lot. Also sitting at the stoplight out of gear it was high.

Now the last two times I let it warm up fully and it was fine all the way to work. It doesnt like colder weather and just jumping on it right away.

Thx

Yes ... there are capped adjustment screws at the base of each throat of the throttle body. However, the idle is all controlled by the PGM-FI system. Therefore, the PGM-FI system needs looked at first. To do that, the DTC codes need pulled first.
