Greetings everyone!
Some time back, while cruising the Internet, I found an alternative to the HondaLine CB Radio. I've go a GL2WAY but it was never promised to be working, hence FREE. But I did see something about a Handheld system that mounted to the handlebar and with some adapter cabling was able to connect in the audio system. For the life of me I can't find that site/page anymore. I'm wondering if anyone here may know of such an animal. I know it was a Midland Radio and maybe something about FRS cables but I just don't remember. So, any help that you may provide is well appreciated.

Unfortunately, the only one that works with incredible reliability is the one made by Honda.

So yes, GL2Way/Bike MP3 has an infamous reputation. Too bad as it was a good idea.
You may be thinking about Kennedy Technologies (www.cellset.com). Believe the owner is retired and no longer in business but their products do have a good reputation and can be found used. They made several interfaces into the audio system for audio and voice. They did not use the handlebar controls as GL2Way tried. You need to have a handheld mounted or some other remote control for the actual transceiver. I had their unit on my GL1500 to interface to a Kenwood tri-band ham transmitter and it worked great.
STARCOM system is supposed to accomplish a similar function but I have not fully vetted their operation.
You can also interface the audio only into the intercom by using the Hollsco unit sold on this website. You would need to either mount an external mic on the helmet, try to use a mic-splitter which are available or even just yell at the HT on the handlebars!
Lastly, some of the two way handhelds are available with Bluetooth which is another whole kettle of fish.

Had a GL2way and the first time i keyed the PTT for more then 30 seconds, it wert dead. Got the dreaded "CB ERROR" display. this after lesss than 1 year. went with OEM Honda unit and could'nt be happier.
I know people say we spend too much money on our rides, but I can't hear them when I'm 1000 miles away!

My GL2Way worked well for quite a while. I installed it in my 2008 in or around 2011. When I got the "CB Error" a couple times I disconnected and reconnected the connections at the back of the radio (in the trunk) and it would again work fine. In the last two years I started getting a squeal that I thought was a ground issue. We doubled the ground and it worked well for another 6 or 7 months, but has started doing the squeal again. Watching discussions on another forum it seems this is a common problem for the GL2Way. I'll push through it until the CB eventually dies.

You may want to check out the Midland 75-822 handheld cb radio. It comes with a bottom piece that can be connected to 12 volts and also a connector to a external antenna. Option is a headset with a push to talk button that you can mount on the handlebar grip. Maybe that will help.

JUST bought that one for my wifes can-am spyder. went with a PTT headseat accessory for her open face helmet. hooking it up this week.
I know people say we spend too much money on our rides, but I can't hear them when I'm 1000 miles away! -

I have used the Midland 75-822 handheld cb radio on other bikes. It worked great, hardest part was running the wires.

One of the advantages of this radio is the antenna is built in. Sorta like a walkie talkie with a hand held mic.

I'm looking for an antenna to connect to the mobile base of the 75-822 in order to extend my range. I was wondering what others were using and how they are connect to the bike.

You can connect the Midland to your CB antenna if you have one. You will need 2 adapters one of these https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SIE-SWR12 and one of these https://www.amazon.com/Maxmoral-2-Pack- ... 806&sr=8-2 You can also find the coax adapter at truck stops. Depending where you have your radio you may need an extender cable. When I was using the midland I had mine mounted in the trunk so the two worked just fine.
