When I got my 2006 GL1800 last fall, it had quite a few aftermarket accessories on it. I like just about all of them except the Kuryakin chrome footpegs. They are nice looking but I didn't like the foot position. I compared them to the stock pegs and realized they are about a half inch higher. This gave me a problem getting under the shifter for the one two shift. Also, rear braking was uncomfortable because the downward motion seemed a bit too far for comfort.
So, I ordered a set of used stock pegs from Motolane Cycle and Salvage in Illinois. The stock pegs don't have the chrome mounting bracket, it looks like powder coated metal. So I decided to create a hybrid. I 'm using the chrome mounting brackets with the stock pegs. Now I have the right height and still have chrome brackets. See pics below.
