Reset the ECM -TheGLForum
GL1800 (Any Year): Reset the ECM
Here are the steps that I follow to reset the ECM on the Goldwing:
•Make sure the engine is cold and has sat for at least 5 hours, overnight is best
Remove the ground (black) cable from the battery Let the bike set for at least 30 minutes
Re-attach the ground to the battery
Start the Goldwing, but DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE
Allow the bike to idle until the engine warms up and you hear the radiator fans turn on After the fans turn off, turn off the ignition
Restart the bike and go for a ride!
That should do it.

Re: Ecu reset
Thanks 823JIM. I totally drew a blank on the process. Thanks for jogging my elderly mind.

Re: Ecu reset
I am not totally sure that disconnecting the battery is necessary. The ECM/ECU (what ever you want to call it) is powered down simply with ignition switched off, I have done successful resets without unhooking battery. But I posted the whole thing as written by Cruiseman of the Cruiseman Garage dvd's .

Re: Ecu reset
Thanks. After it came back to me I’ve heard it done either way.

Re: Ecu reset
Thanks for the very clear instructions.
I tried this when the temperature was around 60 and it seemed like the fans were never going to come on, so I wadded up a towel to plug the openings in the fairing and the screened section behind the front wheel. That got the fans to come on, and removing the towels allowed them to turn off.
