Post by Ken Scourse »

When I see reference to Gen 1.....Gen2 .
What years are captured in these GEN references?

It all depends on who is using the terms.

Some say:
Gen 1 is for the GL1000
Gen 2 is for the GL1100
Gen 3 is for the GL1200
Gen 4 is for the GL1500
Gen 5 is for the GL1800 (2001 - 2017)
Gen 6 is for the GL1800 (2018 - and later)

Then there are the ones that say:
Gen 1 is for the GL1800, 2001 - 2005
Gen 2 is for the GL1800, 2006 - 2010
Gen 3 is for the GL1800, 2012 - 2017
Gen 4 is for the GL1800, 2018 and later.

Personally, I prefer to just use the year of manufacturer. Much simpler.

Thanks for the info....I agree with you in just using year, make and model. I've been online shopping and a few times it mentions part is for gen1.I never knew what it referred to and a google search wasn't really clear.

At the risk of sounding foolish BUT in the use of online parts accessory sites
I would think it's Gen1 2001 to 2017 of the 1800
And Gen2 as the 2018 up 1800 on the New platform body style

Kinda like how THIS forum is laid out
