Floor boards
Hey thanks for the help on my seat dilemma. Now another question. I put floorboards on my ‘14 GL1800 and the heel/toe shifter continually loosens up. I’ve reamed and polished and lubed the pivot pin, put thread locker on that flathead screw the holds the shifter to the pivot... no luck. Maybe a cotter pin style fastener but I don’t think there’s enough room behind the mounting plate to let that work. ??? The screw that’s always loosening up is at the point of the arrow.

Re: Floor boards
If it's a screw that you definitely don't want to loosen up (i.e. ever) then put some high-strength thread locker on the threads. Clean the threads well (brake cleaner works well), put the thread locker on it, and it should never come out again.dkdc12 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:53 pm Hey thanks for the help on my seat dilemma. Re: Floor boards
I have a similar seat comfort issue on my 07.
Seeing those floorboards makes me think that might help the long leg issues. (I've added the handle bar riser kit with minor improvement.)
Who makes those boards in that pic. you posted.
I like them!
Guess I'll also look into having the seat modified.
I am Surprised at how ergonomically incorrect this wing is... seems I'm not alone on that.

Re: Floor boards
Had the same thing happen on mine on my 2013 on the first ride, tightened it up for the ride home and did exactly what WingAdmin suggested, cleaned and used red loctite, that was back in 2013 and 50,000 miles ago it is still tight. Use the tool they supplied to make sure it is tight.dkdc12 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:53 pm Hey thanks for the help on my seat dilemma. Now another question. The other option would be to see if you can find a similar bolt(screw) that has a built in thread locker like a nylon strip that runs down the threads, those NYLOC type systems work well also.

Re: Floor boards
Japanese engineers cannot fathom the size of other races of people. They make Goldwings for their size people, with the bike at the absolute bottom of it's adjustments. For most of us, this means highway pegs and preloading the rear to the top. And most of us are not real tall people. I am 5'8" with a 30 inch inseam. Anyone taller with longer legs is going to have to work at making a GL1800 comfortable for themselves. I can use the stock pegs and tuck my knees in behind the fairing (just) but longer legs need the seat stretched backwards for the driver which limits the passenger. I found the F6B, when it first came out, gave more room.Rudynewtech wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 8:43 pm I am Surprised at how ergonomically incorrect this wing is... seems I'm not alone on that.

Be aware that if your bike is under warranty and you have a heel/toe shifter Honda will void your warranty if you have tranny problems.
