USB port problem
My friend has a 2016 1800.
He has tried plugging a thumb drive into the USB port in the trunk with MP3 songs on it.
If the thumb drive has just one song on it, the system will play that song.
However....
As soon as he adds additional songs to the thumb drive, the system doesn't
even recognize the thumb drive.
Can someone explain how to play MP3 music through that USB port
in the trunk?
Thanks!!!
P.S. I have a small generic MP3 player with hundreds of songs on it.
This player is recognized as an external drive on every computer I've
ever plugged it into.
We tried connecting it to his trunk port via USB cable. Nothing!

Re: USB port problem
I have a usb port in my car and experienced the same problem.. Guy at best buy told me that thumbdrive needs to be formatted as fat32 on your computer and all music must be in the root directory (no individual folders). Once i moved all music out of folders and onto root directory, all music played fine.. Give it a try..

Re: USB port problem
I passed that on to my buddy. Thanks.
In the mean time, can anyone tell me what method they are
using to get music through the usb port in the trunk on the 1800?

Re: USB port problem
I'm not exactly sure what your question is here.
Also, regarding Henry's information from the Best Buy guy, I don't think this is correct. Although, I'm also not sure why that fixed Henry's issue.
On my 2016 Wing, I have a USB thumb drive plugged into mine with hundreds of songs in multiple folders and no problems. My biggest issue was putting more than 255 songs in one folder. The bike will only recognize 255 songs plus or minus a few. Mine will also recognize subfolders. For instance, I have all my music sorted and in folders by bands/artist and then by albums in those folders. The bike has no problem with that. However, I found after a year or so that I didn't really listen to all that music and took most of it off and now only have two folders, Favorites01 and Favorites02. There are nearly 500 songs total in those two folders. If you limit yourself to just the root drive/folder the bike will only recognize ~255 songs.
One other thing. I think you already know this since you mentioned MP3. The songs must be in MP3 format. The bike will not recognize MP4 songs at all. If your friend is still having issues I can pull my drive out tomorrow or Friday and see what formatting the drive is itself (FAT32 or anything else) to try and further help resolve this issue.

Thanks C-dub. I'll pass your message on to him and let you
know what he finds.
His bike is the same as yours, so what worked for you "should" work for him.

Re: USB port problem
If he just started adding songs to a "new" drive, he may have to do a full format first. Some thumb drives come with with hidden software already on them. That may confuse the audio system.

MP4 is used on Apple products and thier Apple Play. If that is where he is getting his music from, he will need to use a converter to go from MP4 to 3. I had no problems coping songs from the Microsoft player on my computer to a thumb drive and getting them to play on my 2012. I just dragged and dropped to the drive, put it in the port and I had music.

Re: USB port problem
I loaded some songs to a thumb drive for a friend for his F6B, USB is in the left saddlebag, it worked fine, Don't know if there is a difference in the F6B and the Wing but it worked fine for him.

Re: USB port problem -- SOLVED!
Ok, we formatted a new thumb drive and loaded it with music
in several different directories, 254 songs per directory and...
It worked like a champ!
Thanks so much for the help guys.
And my buddy thanks you even more!!
