2015 Garmin Navi question

Post by aburr65 »

My buddy and I are getting ready to embark upon an epic journey. We are going to enter Canada near Buffalo NY and ride around the Great Lakes. We will enter the US near Minneapolis to return home. I would like to use the onboard navigation system, but I am a cheapskate. I do not want to pay over $100.00 for the canadian maps. I found an open street map source for canada. Can I use an OSM file in the on board navigation system? Can I use both in conjunction with each other or does one have to be removed. (Hopefully this is clear as mud for someone to answer.)

I am not familiar with the onboard navigation of a Goldwing. However, if it will accept importing a route from another source (ie. Usb) the I would suggest using the Garmin program called Basecamp. Since it is all Garmin products it should work nicely. I know it works for Harley Davidson.

I haven't ridden up into Canada yet, but I have planned a route that went up into Canada using the honda trip planner website then downloaded it onto the SD card provided in the trunk. I never opened it up on the bike, but the card is supposed to be for North America and the trip planner site appears to have all the roads up there. The site exports the files as .gpx files just fine for the on board navigation system.
