Check the coolant level. It shouldn't get hot with you come to a stop. If it is, you may have a thermostat or water pump problem. Do the fans come on?

Does the FI light come on while riding ??? Have you checked the coolant level under the radiator cap ???
In either case, you will want to pull the DTC codes. Do you have a Service Manual ???

Re: engine shuts off at idle when hot
I have not checked the coolant level as the temp gauge does not show hot. I will cheek the FI light as it was in bright sunlight and I thought it was the battery light. I will check coolant as well.
This will happen later tomorrow.
Thanks

Re: engine shuts off at idle when hot
2001, GL1800, 65,000 Miles
I am experiencing a similar problem, but only when the outside Air temperature is above 96 deg. When the outside air temp is below 96 everything works great, I have run through several tanks of gas without any problems. The temp gauge is rock solid in the middle of the dial, but the engine will start missing, stalling at highway speeds, and will die if I allow the throttle back to idle.
Always restarts and No F1 errors show on the dash, and the coolant reservoir is in the middle of the stick. After a cool down the engine runs great again.
Riding in central Texas this past weekend, 83 degree morning and a two hour drive, no problems. Same afternoon 2 hour ride back and the air temperature went just to 97 and the problem shows up. Similar events in the near past and a repeating problem associated with the accumulated heat of the day. Seems to be some sort of electronic breakdown, but the bike must be heat soaked to make it happen.
Without an error code I am not sure what to check.
I have had problems (F1 Errors displayed) in the past, and replaced the original ECM for a fix.
