Scratching my head

Post by Andy27012 »

I have a 2010 gl1800 audio comfort 40k on the clock. A couple of months ago the stereo started cutting out when applying the brakes and then when I put it in reverse without revving the engine the lights flickered and the bike stalled. Pulled the battery and the alternator, both tested good. This was my first ride of the season but it started up fine and didn’t start this behavior until I was on my way home from a 10 mile round trip. Is it possible that the combination of sitting and the two short rides drained the battery? I’m not running a tender as I live in the south and ride almost year round. Would a tender make that big a difference?

Can't be certain but the bike sitting and 2 short rides may well have left you without an adequately charged battery.

For less than 30 bucks, a Deltran Junior is well worth having.

Also...just check for corrosion on the battery terminals ad that the connections are tight...loose connections can cause issues!

Have the battery tested, and make sure the connections are clean and tight.

Being the bike is a 2010, is it still the original battery? If so I would replace it no matter what, it would be 9 years old! If you have replaced it already and it's less than 5 years old, check all connections, tighten them up AFTER having tested the battery, that is the route I would go. Good luck!
