is this more than I want to bite off ? do you HAVE to remove forks ??? I see in some places 5 inches from top of tube I assume with ALLLLLLLLLLL hardware in ..... springs etc .... did it on 1500 not a terrible job ,,,, assume you have to remove surround to get at cap covers
Don't see step by step procedure have Clymer there no details for JUST changing oil just bushing seal replace

It is probably best to remove the forks. The forks are refilled fully collapsed with the springs removed. The 5" is from the top of the tube. On the right fork, when filling collapse the damper rod too.

If your not replacing seals and just changing oil than yes on the removal of the forks.
When I replaced my seals and sliders I also installed drain plugs like the ones on the 1500. Much easier to just change the oil.
