Honda CB Radio "Roger Beep"

Post by edgreenberg »

I went on a group ride with my local GWRRA chapter (NY-N) and our tail-gunner had a roger beep on his CB radio. This means that when he unkeys, the radio transmits a short beep.

Normally, I hate a roger beep but in this application, it was very useful since I knew when Tim, the tail-gunner, was speaking. The lead rider was a lady and her speech was distinctive enough that no assistance was needed to know when she was speaking.

Tim said that his bike (trike) always had a roger beep and he thought it was some sort of configuration option.

I don't want a roger beep, but if there are configuration options that I don't know about..... well, I'm an engineer :)

I found the installation and service manuals for the CB but no owner/user manual. Don't know if there is one.

My bike is a 2010, Audio/Comfort/Nav, and if there is a manual that discusses configuration, or if you know how to configure CB options, please let me know.

Thanks,
Ed Greenberg

To find an owners manual do an internet search for 2010 gl1800 owners manual. I found one in PDF format in about 20 seconds.

Unfortunately I do not see any reference to ROGER BEEP in the 2010 owners manual. But then again, I don't have a reference to it in my 2003 Owners manual either; hut I know there is a ROGER BEEP.

In the owners manual there is a section of BEEP Set. It appears to be on page 113 of that manual. My 2003 manual has it on page 92.

Follow the instructions of BEEP Set to find the BEEP and then push the MODE button one more time. That is where the ROGER BEEP ON/OFF selection is on my 2003. I would have to assume it is in a similar location for the 2010.

I believe this info is correct. First, be sure your CB is turned on. See those 2 big radio nobs on the radio that you think should be volume and channel select ... but one is not. Push one, twist, and make your choices. Then if you didn't find it, push the other ... the roger beep setting is in there somewhere.

Try, with switch turned on, on radio panel the knob on lower right. Press it until you see 'Beep', I think, then select ON or OFF by turning knob.
