Here you can make your own map of the region you want, also you can choose the detail of your map. remember.. don't go over the 2GB.

Re: Update GPS
Thank you Henry, this site works well. It does not give me as much map as I normally used to make myself but with several CF cards it could be manageable. Canada is great, as it all fits on one card, but the U.S. requires five cards to get it all. Our systems will only accept one map file per card. This was a less expensive method tho than buying the CNANT updates on disc and making maps.Henry34653 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2019 7:41 pm Go to the below website.

Re: Update GPS
Viking.. Also a big upside to using this site is that the maps are updated the first of every month.. Here in Florida roads are being added frequently to keep up with the population and I am noticing that the maps are keeping up with the road construction..

Re: Update GPS
Henry, my experience with buying Garmin's CNANT updates is that the brand new ones are still pretty much two years out of date when they come out. Mapping in past years was done by a company called (I think) Nexstar, who then sold the maps to Garmin/Magellan/Tom-Tom etc. Nexstar also made their own GPS units, but by the time all the updates were incorporated by the BIGS, two years had gone by from the surveying. Even Nexstars product was no better. I do not know if that is still what is happening, but we have roads being built up here, and the GPS units do not show them for a while - whether two years any more or not, I cannot say. I always considered two years to be marginal, but all we could hope for. Google maps are not any more up to date, neither Google Earth.

Re: Update GPS
my experience has been that new roads don't show up for about 5 years.

Re: Update GPS
Okay, Update on using the map image from http://www.raumbezug.eu/osm-garmin.htm. The maps seemed to know where the roads are, but all of the forested area was reproduced as little green bushy items (trees I guess) which totally obsured the map most of the time. It looked like a Satellite image had been overlaid on the map. I had to go back to the map card I had in before I put this one in. We were travelling in very heavily forested area and it was totally obscured at times. If I raised the magnification so that I only had about a kilometer of road showing, I could see the highways. Any less and they disappeared into the trees. I will try again when they update to a different CNANT version to see if this is common or not. As I did not set a route, I do not know if the computer can track through the image of the trees or not... I presume it can.

Re: Update GPS
Ok.. Thanks for the info.. Here in Florida where there are a lot of lakes and ponds that might obscure the roads, I do not have the obscurity problem that you are seeing with the trees, and I have the navi set for the default magnification.. Next time I ride through one of the state parks, I will be alert for the problem you are seeing.

Re: Update GPS
Evening, quick question:
I added the CDN img file to the SD card placed it back in my GPS card slot in the bike and can tell it using the new .img how exactly?
Also on the card there is are .gpx files inside the garmin file folder, are these the history files of my previous routes?
Thanks in advance... Wayne

Re: Update GPS
On the navi, hit the menu button and then the info screen. You will see the date of the new img file. I don't know about the gpx files as the 2006 navi does not support gpx files, but I do believe they can be integrated into your navi system.
