Buttons & Contact Cleaner

The Display and the Info buttons stop working on my 2008 GL1800 Nav, ABS, Airbag. They feel fine push down and up, but do nothing to the screen. I suspected the connectors need cleaning. I know how to remove the instrument cover to get at the connectors, but I never use contact cleaner before. Do I just spray it directly into the connectors? What else should I look for in the connectors?
About the buttons, do I spray the contact cleaner from the top and let it run down inside? Or is there another way to get inside of them.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Kenny

You can spray it onto the disconnected male and female connectors, then plug and unplug several times. Inspect for male or female connections that may have bern pressed back from connecting. Also spray into the switch gaps (inside and outside) then exercise multiple times.

Be sure the cleaner you are using is a "plastic safe" variety before using it on the switches.

Thanks people, I just read the fine prints on the contact cleaner spray can. It says “safe on most plastic”. Well, I am going ahead and give it a go.
