Heated Grips on 2008 GL1800

Post by drlngus »

I know there are alot of comments on this subject, but I followed all the steps of checking (I even purchased a Original Shop Service Manual) and all the steps check out except I don't have another hcu or ecm to test. My grips have 2.5 & 2.6 ohm resistance on them. Seats work fine but still no grip heat. Please advise. Thanks in advance.. And since I was that far into checking I also changed the Air filter while I was at it.

Yes, the temp was about 53 degrees and the switch ohms out correctly.

So the grips don't heat but the seat does?
That's a first.
What level 08 is it?

Normally when the grips don't heat neither will the seats heat as they are both in series on the same system

I have a 2008 VIIIA too. The previous owner had to replace the left grip because it wasn’t heating up. Doesn’t sound like that’s your situation. If you are looking for new switches for the grip which includes 4 buttons and seat heat dial, I have an extra set for sale. I bought a new set to solve a display button problem which turned out to be a loose connection problem behind the dash. The switches were fine.

Still haven’t got it fixed, I owned everything out per the manual still no grip heat. So I guess the ECM unit needs to be replaced?? Also would I be able to use an ECM unit from a 2001 won to work on my 08?
