Had to Bleed Clutch Again

Started to take off and the clutch would not work on my 2008. I have had the bike about a year and a half and just about a year ago had a similar problem except I was about 70 miles from home and had to ride without the comfort of a clutch. I bled the clutch today and everything seems to be working fine. I checked for any evidence of leaking fluid and could find none.

Is this a common problem for the gl1800? I never had to do it on my gl1500 in eight years of owning it.

I'd recommend that you check your Owner's Manual. There is a maintenance schedule in it and be sure to follow it to a tee. For proper maintenance, you will find that changing the clutch and brake fluid is required every 12k. Be sure to follow the requirements on changing the coolant also. For an 2008, it should have been replaced 5 times by now.

Thanks, I'm pretty meticulous about maintenance, but this has been twice in one year for the clutch and I was wondering if others have had similar issues.

Did the last owner ever replace the fluid? Anyway rebuilding the clutch master and slave cyl is pretty easy and cheap if you are a DIYer

I have not had that problem with my 07 however I did put speed bleeders on the clutch and brakes for a easier maintenance. And when she is put away for the winter, a couple times a week, I cycle the clutch to keep everything moving.
