2004 goldwing LCD, miles display not working
i have 2004 goldwing and my LCD (no NAV) miles display stopped working,. initially it would come on with no burned pixel and sometimes it would not come on at all , usually after ridding it for 10 minutes it would come on and work perfectly. currently it is not coming on at all. i have the battery on charger all the time
would i have to replace it. are the miles stored on the screen or ECU. where can i get one as original is very expensive. i only have 9k miles on the bike.

Does your trip mileage "a" and "b" work ???
Does other information on the info display show ???
All mileage is stored in the ECU which is part of the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is attached to the back of the meter panel part #9 below.
I'd start by making sure that all connecters are clean and seated correctly ... the one to the switches in front of the ign. switch, and the 2 at back of the meter panel.

You have to remove the cowl. Once that is off, those 2 are accessible from under the speaker boxes.
To remove the cowl, remove:
- I find it easiest to remove the seat, meter panel, pockets, and shelter
- lower center cowl
- upper center cowl
- center cowl
- both inner side cowls
- disconnect headlamps, ambient sensor, bank-angel-sensor, and headlamp motors
- remove the 2 rivets (1 on each side) that hold the upper vents to the sub frame (lower outer corner of each front speaker). See them ... see the harnesses that sit forward of them, especially on the left side ??? When you reinstall, you will have to pull those plastic tabs back through those harnesses. Usually I have to kind of hold over the left one.
- if some connectors are still connected, place a towel on top of the front fender and a 4x4x8 block of wood on top of the fender to rest the cowl on
- pull outward to free the shelter form the stay at the back of each head
- remove the 3 bolts that hold the cowl in place and pull free
As soon as you remove it, on the back side of the cowl, notice the 2 rear facing huge bosses. Then locate their big grommets. See them .... when reinstalling, squirt the bosses and grommets with a slippery mixture of dawn and water. Once you work those bosses into place, install the center bolt only. Then pull the upper vents into place. Then stand next to the fuel tank, and with a flash light, look forward into the outer fork area and verify that you bosses are inserted into the grommets correctly. When reinstalling a cowl, I usually install the right one first, then work around to the left side. Before you put the other 2 bolts into place, reach into your the lower fresh air vents holes and make sure you have a good male/female fit all the way around. If you have problems getting the left boss into its grommet, check the fit for the lower vent first.
For long term storage, I always hang my shelters and cowls from the ceiling. For short term storage, set each one in a folding beach chair.

Do you have a Service Manual ??? There are a couple of simple tests in there. See section lights/meters/switches. The best tool for testing is a DVM (digital volt/ohm meter).

Re: 2004 goldwing LCD, miles display not working
When my readouts on my 2005 gl1800 went blank, I found that one of my brake lights had burned out. Replaced the bulb and all was well.
