Map Updates in Canada

Post by rdownton »

I noticed on the Garmin/Goldwing site that there's a new map update for my 2012. I wasn't able to order it through the website and received a message to call the dealer. I called the dealer and they said the update was $290 CA. It shows on the garmin site the update is $95 US. I called Garmin directly and they said I need to order from the dealer directly. I'm fairly sure that when I ordered the last update in 2015 I was able to order it online. Has anyone in Canada done the update yet? Is there a significant software update for Canada other than the maps?

You may be able to get Garmin to sell to you if you have it shipped to a U.S. address. You can get one of these at any of the close border cities on the U.S. side, online, by requesting it. I have one in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and one in Tonawanda, New York. They charge about $5 to receive the packages you have shipped to them, and then you take a drive and retrieve them. Other than that, one of the U.S. members on this forum might be willing to assist you and then ship the update card cross border. I ran into this way back in about 2011 or 2012, and Garmin was still selling into Canada, while Honda at that time wanted $260 for an update, which they did not even have.

Even so, it will still cost you at least half what Honda wants what with currency exchange and double shipping.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
