GL1800 oil capacity

Post by Asicr »

The '06 GL1800 owners manualspecifies 3.9 US quarts of oil. Why did I have to put 4.2 quarts with an oil filter change to get the correct level on the dip stick?

I did not screw the dip stick in to check oil level per the owners manual instructionsand the bike was on level ground.

I think I remember always adding 4 even quarts on my GL1500 to make it full.

As long as the oil level is between the upper and lower level marks it is good.

I too always use a full gallon of oil when I change oil. I've never learned how to measure 3.9 quarts.

4.2 should be far too much. Did you run the motor a minute or 2 then let the oil settle before checking and on the centerstand??

when I change the oil and filter I add a gallon, button it up and ride until it's time to change it again.

Guilty

I never even check it, it never leaks, and the level is where it belongs at change time.

If you want to put in the .9 of oil for 3.9 qt., carefully remove 3oz. of oil from the container and you will have approximately 1/10 or .1 of a qt. of oil. I have done this a few times back when I was using the same oil in my 1500 and my wife's VTX, don't need to do it anymore. I found that I don't squeeze the oil container out anymore!!😂😂

When I first get a bike I check the oil lever a few times before the first oil change since it is new to me and I have no idea if it uses oil or not. never had one that did use oil, anyway, after that I change it, button it up and ride it until the next oil change,
