front break caliper

Post by bucketboy »

does the front break caliper operated from the handlebar leaver move up and down when actuated? If so, what is the purpose of this design feature and does this action cause a clunking noise up and down.?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The front left caliper rocks up when the brake is applied, which is what activates the ADV (Anti Dive Valve) located just in front of it. That in turn locks up the left fork to keep the bike's nose from diving down. I'll let others intone about whether to disable it or not (I have).

Thanks Tamathumper for the info. Very helpful. I took off the fender and saw the lash up but still did not what it was. I will now be able to research more about this feature.

Shows you have a 1500?
I can tell you, on my 1800, (I am assuming it's the same on a 1500), the left caliper lifts when the hand brake lever is used, which actuates the secondary master cylinder. This activates the rear brake as in Linked Brake Systems.
