****PLEASE HELP****Removing muffler to get to Final Drive

Post by flay »

I cannot remove the filler plug from my final drive. I used a 17mm 6 & 12pt wrench and socket. It's now stripped. How can I get this off? I ordered new plugs.

Use a hammer and chisel to tap and work it around enough to loosen up. There's an O-ring under there if I remember correctly, so don't heat it with a torch.

If you have a Gator Grip socket, or a set of "Grip Rites" those grip and work on rounded hex fasteners surprisingly well.

I wouldn't try the "left handed drill bit" on this one, the shavings might end up in your rear drive.

When you re-tighten the new one, don't overdo it.

Gator Grip, all the way. I've used one on this plug before, and it took it right off when a regular socket just spun.
