yellow years?

Post by fibersport »

OK, well I'm dipping my toe in the 1800 water here. I have a 1990 1500 and am thinking of moving up in years to an 1800. I'm going to picky and really want a yellow one. What years were they available in yellow and were there different yellows? Of those years, were there any to avoid? I'm in no hurry to buy, if it takes a few years then so be it.

May be wrong but here what I have: 2001, 02, 03, 05, 09 and 2010

There is one yellow, Pearl Hot Rod Yellow, Y130P.

Since you have a very specific requirement, I would not rule out any year. They're Goldwings after all. If you find many to choose from and you can afford any of them, then I always go for one with a good owner and maintenance history. Certainly the later years have improvements over earlier years but I'd rather have a well loved 2005 over an abused 2009.

I found two using the above classified search tool. Of the two, based on the ads only, I would take the 2001. Fairly priced, reasonable mileage and an obviously knowledgeable, caring owner.

Thanks for the information Andy. I had seen both of them as I started "kicking the tires" and I would agree with you on the 2001. As I said, I can be patient and knowing the years will now let me learn bit more about the changes. Having my 1500 is like looking for a job while you still have one, it allows you to be choosy.

Here’s a couple others. Not sure why the search tool didn’t grab them:

2010 was a very popular year for yellow. In 2010, Honda over produced in OH to have enough to sell for a 2 year period while they moved their factory to Japan. There is no such 2011 year. So you will probably find many used 2010 yellows for sale. If I were searching for one, I'd be looking for a low mileage 2010 abs level. That means it will come with premium sound, comfort, NAVI, and abs.

I have a 2002 Hot Rod Yellow,
only 116,500 miles on it so far

runs like it just rolled off the Show Room Floor.

the previous owner, added Traxxion Suspension, and a lot of crappy chrome stuff, the chrome I took off.

the suspension is rock solid, the bike goes where the front wheel is pointed.

only use OEM air filters, added rabbit wire screens to the intake ducts.

I personally have no aversion to the earlier year models, they are, after all, Goldwings, and with attention to normal maintenance, will run forever.

Thanks to all who replied, I ended up buying my yellow 1800. I think it was one of the ones that Andy had suggested, it is the 2001 that was in" Mokena, IL. What a great bike! There is no comparison to my 1500. Since I'm 5'-9" with a 30" inseam, the 1500 was maybe a little too much bike for me even with a Corbin seat. The 1800 feels and handles a lot like my son's R1 but while sitting upright. The power is great, the handling is quick and the yellow is fabulous. I spent yesterday taking apart and cleaning pretty much all the switches in the handlebar pods. The sticky mute, reverse and cruise switches are all working fine. I thought I also had 3 burned out headlights, turns out only a low beam was out and the high beams didn't even come on due to yet another dirty switch. I also noticed that the rear brake light switch had a tendency to stick in the off position, a little working it in and out got it back in operation. Now I wish my work commute was even longer!

Funny how that "not in a hurry" thing went away!! :D

Congrats on the new ride. Sounds like it's a perfect fit for you.
