Mirror mount

Post by mikeride »

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a part needed for a 2007 GW with Nav/heated (non-airbag). This winter, I had the bike in a ShelterLogic shelter, and it got blown over to the right, further damaging the mirror from some light damage it had from years ago. I bought a replacement mirror assembly. When I removed the old mirror to replace it, I discovered that the plate that the 3 mounting screws thread into was bent (and corroded). I took pictures to my local Honda dealer, the parts guy consulted with the service department and they said I needed the Upper Cowl Stay, and I ordered that part back in April. I finally stopped riding long enough to start taking apart the plastic, and I now realize that this was not the right part. I have looked through a Chilton's manual (and its supplemental PDF) as well as the parts blowups at the dealer's site, but it seems that this part is never really in scope of any of the bits that I've seen in order to give it a name or part number. I've included a picture with the end of the cowl stay highlighted as well as the part I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer in finding out the right part name or number.

Mike

Assuming this is a GL1500 as per your info...I think this is the part required, but look for yourself, it is the part that the mirror actually attaches:

There are 2 cowl stays. An 'A' and a 'B'.

Part #2 in the fishe below is the one that the mirrors mount too. To replace, the meter, the speaker boxes, and the cowl will need removed. One way to tell it is damaged is as you saw, another is inspecting the long straight bar access the top. Once the meter panel is removed, most of the time that bar is bent. Both stays inter lock together.
