fault indicator light

Post by singleton »

I have a 2001 Goldwing with 130,000 miles I bought new. Several months ago I started getting a F.I. of 26 blinks which has to do with a left knock sensor but the bike ran fine. The F.I. light would come on ever so often, not every time I rode, the bike continued to run fine. Last month the F.I. came on and the bike started running rough and would die at low idle RPM'S ( stop lights). I could keep it from dieing by keeping the rpm's above 1,000. I changed the spark plugs and the bike ran fine for about a hundred miles but is now acting up again. I smell gas during the rough low idle/die instances. I am also noticing a whistling sound seems to be coming from the bottom underside of the engine at low idle rpm's which goes away above 1,000 rpm's. Any ideas on what the problem/fix is and the cost. I need to decide if a 20 year old bike is worth the price of repair.

I have read about the FI 26 code multiple times on several forums. In very instance but one, about 5%, the malfunction was caused by a failing Electronc Control Module, PGM-FI Unit. The PGM-FI UNIT is PN:38770-MCA-P00. The cheapest I have seen it is $635.77 from MRCycles.com.

Thanks MikeB, your comment seems to be in agreement with others I've read.
