Apologies as this topic is likely already covered somewhere...I am a newbie to the forum and today purchased a 2013 GL1800 F6B.
The dealer offers a 3 month, 3,000 warranty and I can buy from the dealer an extended limited powertrain extended warranty good for 24 months at $499. I have always declined these thinking they are a ripoff. Any thoughts pro or con? Thanks and love this forum already.

Re: Powertrain limited warranty
Welcome to the forum. Where are you from?
Honda factory warranty was three years, unlimited mileage starting from date sold by dealer. Although possibly not, I would think that has passed. Honda offered an opportunity to buy an extension for up to an additional five years but that had to be purchased before the base warranty expired.
Based to this, I would assume (you know what that means) that this is NOT a factory Honda warranty you are being offered. As a general rule, these third party warranties are worth as much as used air. Read it carefully and evaluate the bike closely but based on what you have said, I would pass on the warranty.
I would however go to a Honda dealer and have then enter the VIN into their service computer. They will run a report of first sold/in-service date, any extended warranty status, any Honda dealer repairs and maintenance and every applicable recall and the status of those recall(s).

Thanks for confirming my initial thoughts Andy. I am from the North Shore of Massachusetts, so will get in a short amount of riding on the new bike before winter storage unfortunately.

If it is not a factory warranty, it is usually not worth buying. Many word things in a way that means they got your money, and in no way do they intend to give any back.

Is this a used bike? Or a leftover new bike?ventures wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:38 pm Apologies as this topic is likely already covered somewhere...I am a newbie to the forum and today purchased a 2013 GL1800 F6B.

If used, $500 for 24 months is probably an aftermarket warranty.....and is very expensive. The Honda extended 4 year warranty was only $600-$700 depending on the dealer.
Is it a Massachusetts dealer you are buying it from?

Re: Powertrain limited warranty
Limited warranty is just that, LIMITED. What is the mileage limit in those 24 months?
I would ask just what is covered, and see it in writing, and what is the deductible. It's easy to tell you that the repair needed is normal wear and tear.
The drive train is pretty much bullet proof on an 1800, unless it was abused and neglected.
