Problem with passenger position

Post by Bikedays »

Hello everyone, I am a new member. I don't have a GL1800 yet, I currently have a BMW K1200LT and wanted to change it to a Gold Wing (preferably 2012-2017 version).

I always travel with my wife, and when I tried GW I wanted her to be there too, to make sure she found her position on GW comfortable.

Unfortunately, she has found that the rear seat backrest is much more inclined than the BMW.
On the BMW she is sitting upright, on the Honda she is lying backwards and I have seen that the position of the backrest is not adjustable.

Has anyone had the same problem?
Do you know if it is possible to change the position or the thickness of the back padding?

I searched the forum for threads about this, but couldn't find them.

Thanks for any reply.

I've never heard of a problem with the backrest being inclined, but personal tastes vary.

Is this a Goldwing you purchased, rented, or borrowed? Is the backrest somehow installed improperly?

If there is a previous owner involved, all bets are off.

I have a 2009, and my wife found the backrest a bit too laid back as well. She would slide forward on every bump. Our solution was to buy a custom seat, and I went with the Ultimate seat. It totally solved that problem, but was costly. I recouped some of my loss by selling the stock seat back to the dealership. They like to keep seats in stock for as many models as they can in case of rips or tears to customers bike seats.

Others have reported similar feel. Mustang sells a cover for the passenger backrest that includes a wedge of foam to make the position more upright. Kuryakyn used to make one as well although I believe it may be now discontinued. Most aftermarket seat companies will offer different backrest angles.

It was a friend of mine's Goldwing, which he lent me to give it a try.
Undoubtedly personal tastes are different, as you have already written.

The PASSENGER BACKREST COVER ONLY WITH COMFORT WEDGE FOR GL1800 sold by Wing Stuff is what you are looking for.
I have one on my 2017. It had been on my 2003. Before I sold the bike, I transferred it to the 2017.
