Rivco Brake Modulator Bulbs

Post by SweetWing »

Hi returned to riding after 3 yrs away due to an accident (head on) in my cage,

Picked up another Wing 2006 and I am looking at the Rivco Flashing Brake Light Bulbs - looking for anyone with experience using these - ease of install seems a plus.
Any photos or video would be great - thanks in advance!!

I installed these in my 2017 GL1800.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RS ... UTF8&psc=1
At $17.99 for a set of two, it was a good buy.

Welcome to the forum. I did similar and purchased off of Amazon, total of 6 bulbs (required a modification to the upper tail lights) but WOW...if you don't notice me braking now....you are BLIND!!

Which bulbs did you go with - how intrusive was the mod?

Sorry, I've been away. But the required mod to add the additional light is very easy. Honda left out a connection on the trunk tail lights..needs total of 4 bulbs in the trunk. However the inner light are just "running lights", the outer are a combo of running and brake. The bulb holder is capable of doing both running and brake on the inner lights...just need to add a wire.

I have heard that adding the extra wires is the way to go but I have also read where adding the wires AND tungsten bulbs caused excessive heat that melted sockets. My approach was to use the LED bulbs which produce far less heat and consume far less current while producing as good or better illumination.

Before modifying your bike, check it. There is some inconsistency between the bikes. All the red bulb sockets from 2001-2017 are dual filament and equipped with dual filament bulbs. Some bikes have them all powered as tail lights and but not all are brake lights. Other bikes have all the brake lights but not all the tail lights powered. So if you want to make them all work as brake lights AND all work as tail lights, you can use those EC jumpers but if you have all the brake lights now, maybe you can deal with the tail lights as they are.
