Kuryakyn battery covers

Post by wcourtois »

I tried a search but didn't find anything relevant so I'll ask here...
I bought a 2009 GL1800 trike and the previous owner added a lot of chrome accessories. It took me a couple of months to realize the battery cover on the left side doesn't fit right. The only posts that reach the grommets are the top 2. Is this a common thing with these accessories or could the installer have done something to it? It looks like there was some trimming done on the top rear? Thanks.

That is a finnicky cover to get on right. It must be tucked up under the seat before you can get the posts to line up with the grommets. If there is anything underneath that is protruding beyond where it should be, that will also stop the posts from meshing with the grommets. Perhaps any trimming that was done might have been because the PO could not get the top edge to tuck up under the seat. By your picture, your cover "is not" on right. the chrome rear edge should be closer to the trim piece behind it. This may be because it is a trike.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

There are tabs that match up with the seat. It takes some practice to get those covers on correctly. Sometimes it's easier to put those on with the seat off. What brand is the trike conversion?

I usually take the seat off, or at least remove the bolt on that side and lift it up a bit.
it fits really snug down against that cover

It's a CSC Cobra XL kit. The right side is good, but left isn't even close. I'm gonna put the OEM's back and see if there's still a problem.

In gonna take a better look at it in the next couple days. We'll see how the OEM's fit and go from there.

I have the top under the seat and don't think anything by the battery is preventing it from fitting. Thank you all for the replies... I'll get back to this when it's raining the next couple of days lol.
