Signal/Brake Lights interconnected

Post by bohdan »

Gents,
You guys are definitely smarter than me. A friend of mine has a 03 wing. He has put LED for his back brake and signal lights. He recently added the little brake/signal indicators that are behind the armrests of the passenger. It seems to me, his right indicator light is a little dim. But when he puts the brake on, his right indicator goes off. Am I right to think that the signal and brakes are two totally different circuitry? I always thought they were totally independent. I looked at the wiring under the seat and there are drivers and resistors. but still separated from the braking circuitry. The only thing common is the ground. Any ideas. Cheers

To my knowledge, there are three brands of lights offered that mount directly to the back of the rear speaker pods. Do you know which he has? The three that I am thinking of are NOT plug n' Play. How and where did he tie in these new lights?

Also, there are many brands of LED bulbs that replace the stock rear bulbs. Again, which brand does he have?

Most likely is a loose connection in the most recent wiring addition. Probably a bad ground causing the light to search out a ground through the standard lights. There should not be any "drivers and resistors" that have been added unless the LEDs installed in the turn signals were installed (improperly) with resistors instead of installing an electronic signal flasher.

This sounds to me like a ground problem, or some broken wires in the trunk hinge area. The circuits lead to the same lights but are different. I have the Kuryakyn brand of these LED pods and they were plug and play. If his are the same, then I would be looking at first, disconnecting to see if my lights still work right, second, if they do, then return them for a replacement, or third, check out the wire bundles in the trunk hinge areas.
